Breagate Produce of Mill Hill, Colton, Tadcaster On April 21, a Leeds City Magistrate court was fined £ 50,000 for violating safety regulations.
An employee of the company, worker Colin Smith, was January 5 this year heading through the yard to a maintenance workshop. He was hit by three potato crates loaded on the teeth of a telescopic handler, which was driven by another employee. The result is a fall and a fracture of the left leg.
An investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (HSE) revealed that the company has not taken enough measures to prevent people from being struck by vehicles. The investigation also found that a large number of containers were stored in the company’s courtyard, which means that there was not enough space, which forced pedestrians, including Mr. Smith, to lay a longer route than necessary to the transport zone.In addition, the company was also unable to make sure that the operators of forklift trucks and telescopic handlers clearly understand what the rules are for transporting potato boxes, and effectively comply with them.
The trial began on April 12. The company pleaded guilty to a violation of Rule 4 (1) of the Workplace Rules (Health and Safety) of 1991. And on April 21, a court decision was fined 50,000 pounds and received an order for the payment of 962 pounds.
