At the next meeting, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) approved a report on the verification of signatures of the European Civil Initiative, which calls for the cessation of animal husbandry in cages and certifies that 2550 certificates were collected.
The organizers of the European Civil Initiative seek to put an end to the inhuman treatment of animals that are kept or bred in cages.
The initiators ask the EU Commission to submit a legislative proposal prohibiting the use of cages for laying hens, rabbits, youngsters, chickens, quails, ducks and geese, sows, as well as separate boxes for calves.
The European Commission registered the citizens' initiative in September 2018, and the organizers were able to collect signatures for one year from September 11, 2018. The organizers gave 1394 signatures to the National Electoral Administration (NVI) on December 13 last year. Signatures were verified by NVI and found that 2550 signatures collected over one year were valid.
The European Citizens Initiative was created by the Lisbon Treaty and is designed to enable European Union citizens to initiate EU legislation through the European Commission.
