One hectare of fragrant grass brings 100 thousand hryvnia.
The Spassky Nursery in the village of Spasskoye, near the Dnieper, occupies 25 hectares. Mostly, coniferous and deciduous plants grow in the nursery, but one hectare out of 25 is occupied by a spicy garden. Although the nursery was created 10 years ago, the owners of the nursery noticed mint only 4 years ago. Fragrant plants in the nursery occupy the entire hectare, but now mint occupies 70% of the hectare. Commercial director of the nursery Lyudmila Barannik says that Ukraine’s potential is underestimated. She says that peppermint requires tangible spending only in the first year. Further, if you do not make mistakes in the care and watering, mint investments will not be required. It does not even require fertilizer, especially if it grows in open ground. The Spassky Nursery does not grow mint for raw materials, but as a finished product in a pot, as well as shoots. Among the many varieties - orange, pineapple, banana, chocolate, ginger, apple mint. One plant, according to Barannik, brings 10-15 hryvnias. For one year, the nursery sells about 10 thousand plants at retail. Here it is mint arithmetic - one hectare brings 100 thousand hryvnias. The most important thing in this business is a clear idea of the buyer. Barannik says that Moroccan mint is popular in the summer. The main customers are cafes and restaurants that make mojito from it. Mint is in demand now in the field of landscape design - spicy gardens are a modern trend. Fragrant herbs adorn not only household plots, but also apartments of urban residents - mini-gardens appear on balconies and window sills.
