African swine fever spreads throughout Belgium, however, outbreaks of the virus were found only among wild animals. The biosafety measures introduced by the country have shown their effectiveness, because over the past 4 months in Belgium there has been only one outbreak of ASF.
Now the country is trying to restore pork sales abroad, as exporters have suffered losses due to the ban on exports to some countries after the start of the spread of ASF.
The economic mission of the Belgian government is now on an official visit to China. Thus, officials and businesses are trying to open up new opportunities for the export of Belgian food and agricultural products.
Pigs have poor eyesight, but excellent sense of smell.
During the mission, in particular, an exchange of experience took place - a seminar was organized “How the fight against disease keeps African swine fever from Belgian farms." The event was attended by Belgian and Chinese industry experts.
The workshop clearly demonstrated the daily efforts of the sector to maintain high biosafety standards, as well as the additional efforts that the Belgian government initiated after reports of ASF among wild boars.
- Earlier, we reported that 9 infected boars were found in Poland near the border with Germany.
- Japan is preparing a series of measures that will increase biosecurity at pig farms in the event of an outbreak of ASF.
- Despite laboratory tests showing that there is no African swine fever in Southeast Asia, more than 4,000 pigs have died.
- We also wrote that in Russia there was a discussion of the epizootic situation in ASF and the causes of its outbreaks in the country.
- As African swine fever spreads across many Asian and European countries, pig owners in New Zealand are vigilant.
