In response to the growing demand for plant foods, Brazil's Grupo Mantiqueira, South America's largest egg producer, has developed vegan eggs.

According to the Brazilian organization Associação de Supermercados do Estaio do Rio de Janeiro, a vegan egg is made from pea starch and comes in the form of a powder packed in a traditional egg box.

The product was developed in collaboration with the Good Food Institute (GFI), a nonprofit organization that helps accelerate the production of plant foods. The launch followed the group’s research, according to which up to 60 million Brazilians want to reduce the consumption of animal products.

Vegan eggs are intended to be used as a direct substitute for chicken eggs in baked goods and egg-based dishes. They will also be available as part of the new Clube do Ovo subscription service, which offers "scheduled home delivery of eggs."

In the traditionally heavy Brazilian culture, the attitude towards a plant and vegan diet is gradually changing. According to a study conducted by the Good Food Institute, 70% of respondents said that they perceive positively people who reduce their consumption of animal products.
