In Russia, a discussion of the epizootic situation in ASF and the causes of its outbreaks in the country took place. According to Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Gordeev, this year a difficult situation has developed in the Far Eastern Federal District, where outbreaks of ASF in wild and domestic pigs were regularly observed throughout the year.
The virus came from China, where the disease has been rampant for more than a year, constantly expanding the geography of its spread.
In this regard, the authorities of the Amur region were instructed to strengthen measures for the non-proliferation of ASF among wild boars, despite the fact that the virus is still circulating in the domestic pig population.
With ASF, only a few individuals survive, remaining sensitive to infection. These animals are virus carriers during the year after infection.
During the discussion, attention was focused on the need for better technical equipment of the new border crossing between Russia and China. Inspections of meat imports from China should be tightened.
In addition to the Far East, cases of African swine fever have been reported in the central part of the country. So, the infected meat from the Kaluga region turned out to be in sausage, which went to the shelves of 39 regions of the Russian Federation. This was due to an illegal purchase of contaminated meat. It is noteworthy that the supplier of hazardous raw materials was never found.
- Although initial laboratory tests show that African swine fever is absent in Southeast Asia, more than 4,000 pigs have died.
- In western Poland, veterinary authorities have confirmed that the number of ASF cases among wild boars has increased.
- The Polish veterinary authorities have confirmed that another wild boar infected with ASF was discovered in western Poland, in the province of Lebus.
- African swine fever spreads to many Asian and European countries, pig owners in New Zealand are vigilant about biological protection.
- The Australian government is creating a department that will monitor the stock and health of wild boars to protect against ASF.
