Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the Krishi Udan scheme will be launched in speed to help farmers transport their products and improve their costs. This scheme will be implemented on international and national routes, especially for the north-eastern and tribal areas.
The agricultural sector, which has been the stronghold of the Indian economy for so long, now accounts for approximately 20% of gross national product, nonetheless provides employment for 60% of the population.
According to Krishi Udan, financial incentives for concessions from the Center and state governments will extend to individual airlines to encourage operations at low-traffic airports. The scheme also provides for the introduction of the availability of airline tickets. At least half of the seats on flights in Wudang will be offered at preferential rates, and the carriers involved in the project will receive a certain amount of financing to cover losses from subsidized fares.
In Udan 4.0 VGF, aircraft with more than 20 seats were repaired. These airliners will operate in priority areas: Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, the northeastern states, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadwip.
