In the Kherson region, the second case of ASF was recorded this summer. A farmer from Novaya Kakhovka announced the death of 39 pigs of different ages on a private pig farm. The obtained tissue samples of dead animals went to the veterinarians of the Dnieper for research, who were diagnosed with ASF.
Specialists could not identify where the disease came from on the farm of the Kherson farmer.
The bodies of infected pigs were burned, as were the overalls of workers who took samples for analysis. The farm declared quarantine. The neighboring village of Korsunka fell into the three-kilometer quarantine zone.
A census of pigs from individual peasant farms was conducted there. Their health status is carefully monitored. An emergency antiepizootic commission will meet at a meeting where measures will be taken to combat the further spread of the disease, said the chairman of the regional commission on industrial safety and emergency situations Vadim Chaban.
Before the outbreak of African swine fever in Novaya Kakhovka, a piglet infected in the same disease died in Kherson. The owner kept him on the plot. He said that he had acquired a piglet from a merchant in the village of Novaya Mayachka.
Even then, experts suspected that the sick animal was brought for sale from a village near New Kakhovka. And now the fear of the outbreak there has been confirmed.
