The highest apple prices this season have been recorded since the first days of May, as evidenced by monitoring data of Info-Shuvar news agency.

The monitoring revealed that after an increase in prices in early May, the cost of the most popular apple varieties in the country's markets increased by 50-80%. Fruits of some varieties doubled in price.

So, May 7, 2019. at the largest wholesale market of the West of Ukraine ORSPO “Shuvar” in Lviv, Golden Delicious apples were sold at 10-14 UAH / kg, and Idared and Ligol - at 7.5-8 UAH / kg and 10-14 UAH / kg, respectively. For apples of the Dexot variety, they asked for 8-10 UAH / kg.

It is noteworthy that in the current season, the cost of these fruits was consistently low throughout the entire shelf life. The first slight rise in price was observed in March, but even so, the cost of apples was 2-2.5 times lower than last year.

Experts explain the current rise in price of apples in Ukrainian markets by a decrease in supply due to depletion of their stocks in storage. Most manufacturers rushed to sell their stocks in the first half of the season.

The quality of apples in warehouses was rapidly declining and farmers were forced to sell them at low prices.
