The National Farmers Union of Great Britain (NFU) calls on the government to be more serious about the impact of floods on the agricultural and food industries.
Some of the UK's most productive agricultural land is in coastal areas vulnerable to flooding.
The farmers union says agricultural land deserves the same protection as urban areas.
Scientists predict by 2080 in the UK sea level rise to 20 meters along with an increase in the frequency and intensity of storms.
This issue will be discussed today in London on June 12 at a seminar organized by the NFU to review the Agency’s new environmental strategy to deal with floods and changes in the coastal zone.
NFU vice president Stuart Roberts said agriculture is "not to be ignored" when it comes to flood risk.
“Productive agricultural land is an indispensable national treasure not only for providing food, but also for other public goods that it provides. The severe floods that have occurred in recent years have demonstrated why long-term strategic plans are needed to deal with flood problems in the country, ”said Stuart Roberts.
