For February alone this year, more than a hundred cases of rabies infection of animals were detected in the Russian Federation. Such data was published by the Cyrano information system, based on the results of a study by the Federal Institution “Central Scientific and Methodological Veterinary Laboratory”.

The lion's share of diseases was recorded in the following areas: Belgorod, Smolensk and Novosibirsk. Cases of animal disease with rabies are also recorded in the Penza region.

Among the animals that had the imprudence to be infected, foxes (34 cases), dogs (33), cats (20), cattle (9), and raccoon dogs (8) were noted. Korsaki (2), small cattle (1), lynx (1), arctic fox (1).

Almost all of these animals were affected by the rabies virus. As you know, this virus leads to specific inflammation in the brain and precedes the defeat of the salivary glands, nerve cells and cerebral cortex. Virus transmission can occur through animal saliva and (less commonly) in contact with human saliva. As a result, the bite of a sick animal provokes irreversible changes and disorders in the body of infected individuals.
