The Taiwanese government is tightening up preventive measures against the African swine fever virus.
In particular, representatives of different countries around the world are informed that it is strictly forbidden to import pork meat and any pig products into the island.
Taiwanese authorities fear that the insidious virus might infiltrate the territory entrusted to them and launch a destructive attack on the pig population. Therefore, from July 19, 2019, the luggage of all citizens arriving in Taiwan will undergo a thorough search.
In the event that prohibited items are found in the personal belongings of travelers, the violator will have to pay a fine exceeding two hundred thousand dollars in Taiwan (about six and a half thousand US dollars).
If the ban on the import of pig products is violated repeatedly, the violator will have to pay one million Taiwan dollars (a little over thirty-two thousand US dollars) to the treasury of Taiwan.
If a situation arises that the offending passenger will not have the amount necessary to pay the fine, he will not be allowed into Taiwan and will delay the payment of the penalty debt.
