The British developers managed to create a unique robotic technique, which, thanks to artificial intelligence, can distinguish various crops in the fields and harvest.
At the moment, we are talking about a picker of lettuce heads, which a smart robot can carefully cut.
Based on the results of research and experiments, the robot demonstrates high accuracy and care on the field - about eighty-five percent of the efficiency of the machine versus one hundred percent of an experienced human assembler.
It is not superfluous to note that the robot is a manipulator that moves with the help of wheels. The width of the equipment is adjustable depending on the width of the beds. The unit is equipped with a “hand” - a mechanism with a grip, a cutting device and a video camera. The lens of another camera mounts on top of the wheeled platform.
It is known that the artificial intelligence of an aggregate allows it to distinguish between three types of conditions of agricultural plants: mature, immature, affected by pests or disease. Also, the robot can recognize the type of soil. All this is due to work based on the Darknet Object Classification Network software.
It is noteworthy that during the "training" of the robot, over one and a half thousand images with various types of vegetables and soil were loaded into its system.
