2018 allowed Ukrainian farmers to break their own record and collect a generous harvest of walnuts in volumes up to 120 thousand tons. This is a quarter more than in the previous 2017. Such growth rates and yield volumes allowed Ukrainian walnut groves to come third in the world after nut plantations in the United States of America and China.
However, prices for Ukrainian walnuts in the world market show the opposite trend, falling rapidly. If we compare the cost of Ukrainian walnut in 2017 with the figures for the end of 2018, we can see that the price fell by a third. Both in the domestic market and in the external trading arena.
Walnut sellers on Ukrainian trading floors complain that people are less and less willing to buy their goods every day, and sometimes they complain that the price of 130 hryvnias per kilogram is too high.
