In the large greenhouse in Ulvik, Norway, the country's first truffle farm has opened. In a few years, Truls Opdal hopes that he will be able to get local delicacy from the soil.

Opdal receives scientific support. After visiting the area where truffles naturally grow, he made contact with a research team. In 2014, researchers came to Ulvik to study the climate and take samples from the earth. They concluded that burgundy truffles (Tuber Uncinatum) can be grown.
Since then, Opdal and other Nordic Truffle employees have planted about 1 thousand walnut trees in the municipality of Ulvik, both in open ground and in the greenhouse. Direct speech: “The growing conditions here are fantastic. Truffles are eaten, ice cream, chocolate and butter. There are endless possibilities with truffles, ”says Opdal.
Nordic leases land and receives assistance from a professional school in Ulvik, where one of the areas of study is the “local food culture”. The goal is to grow Ulvik truffle in an area that is currently mostly known for its fruit cultivation.

It takes six to seven years to find truffles in the ground. It's all about patience. Truls Opdal expresses the hope that the first truffles will be available already in 2020-2021.
