Over the past weekend, EMERCOM employees recorded 41 cases of fire in the ecosystems of Transcarpathian region.
Of the 41 cases of dead wood arson, almost half were recorded in Uzhgorod district. As soon as the weather is warm, rescuers expect a wave of fires in the mountainous areas.
Burning dry grass and leaves does not cause large material losses if the fire does not reach the buildings. But with a strong wind, this can happen. This year, there were no cases of ignition of residential and administrative buildings during the burning of dead wood. But in previous years, such incidents were recorded, says the speaker of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Transcarpathia, Natalya Batyr. Recently, during the burning of dead wood in Velikobereznyansky district, 10 pillars burned down and several villages were left without telephone communications. Most of all, animals suffered from fires in the fields. Environmentalists say that after a riot of fire on the field, you can see dozens of charred corpses of animals. Many living creatures live in the grass: hares, pheasants, shrews, insects. All of them are very affected by fires. Not every animal can escape from the fire. So, the little hares that were recently born are unable to escape. And these are very big losses, says environmentalist Oksana Stankevich-Volosyanchuk. Specialists ask citizens to refrain from burning dead wood, and environmentalists recall that such actions involve a fine of several hundred hryvnias.
